DECODING GARBHASHAYAGATA ARBUDA: AN AYURVEDIC REVIEW ON UTERINE FIBROIDS
Nowadays, women are more concerned with appearance than with their health. As a result, a key contributing factor to the rising prevalence of gynecological illnesses in women is changing food and lifestyle patterns. One of these that gynecologists frequently deal with in their daily work is uterine fibroids. It lowers a woman's quality of life, resulting in emotional and physical suffering that significantly affects her family's well-being.
Due to the lower prevalence of the disease's risk factors, such as delayed marriage, postponed conception, nulliparity, sedentary lifestyle, bad eating habits, chemical and tainted food, and a polluted environment, cases of Garbhasayath Arbuda were uncommon in ancient times. No classical Ayurvedic work specifically mentions the Arbuda of the female reproductive system. It can be referred to as Garbhashaya Arbuda and is associated with uterine fibroids based on its origin from Garbhashaya and its surrounding structure.
Nowadays, between 30 and 50 percent of women have uterine fibroids as a result of improper lifestyle changes. Hormonal therapy and surgical procedures are the only options available to us in the current medical system for treating fibroid. Weight gain, melancholy, and irregular uterine bleeding are only a few of the undesirable complications and side effects of hormonal medication. Surgical treatment, particularly a hysterectomy, is unable to maintain her fertility.
The purpose of this study is to support the pathophysiology of uterine fibroids from an Ayurvedic standpoint in order to increase awareness and promote the use of Ayurvedic treatments for these kinds of conditions. We may compare the pathophysiology, symptoms, and indications of uterine fibroids to Mansaja Arbuda, which is referenced in the Susrutha Samhita. In Arbuda Chikista settings, Shodhana, Shaman, and Shalyaja Chikista are stated as a line of treatment that is used to reduce the size of fibroids and their symptoms.
